SUNFLOWER, MAMMOTH

Summer Annual. Stately sunflowers with enormous heads, more than a foot across, provide spectacular beauty first, then seeds for roasting or birdfeed. Each plant bears one huge, eye-catching bloom. Easy to grow. Kansas state flower.

After all danger of frost, sow seeds in open ground well exposed. Cover with 1 inch of soil. When plants are 4 inches tall, thin. Needs lots of water.

Excellent for tall blooming backgrounds and screens for unsightly places. Harvest seed by cutting flower heads when backs yellow, then hang downward in a warm, dry place.
