Easy Seed Starting Tips!
Regardless if you start indoor using a Jiffy Greenhouse or Jiffy Strips or sow directly into your garden, these tips can help!
If starting seed indoors:
1. It is best to use a seed starting mix. Generally the mix will be loose, well-drained and fine texture.
2. Keep the soil moist but not damp.
3. Covering the container or tray will produce a greenhouse effect and keep the soil at an even moisture level.
4. Keep soil warm. Use a heating mat if necessary.
5. Follow the directions on the packet of seed to determine the planting depth or plant the seed no deeper than the seeds diameter unless they are an extremely small seed, then you cover twice the diameter of the seed.
6. Maintain proper air circulation to help avoid mold growth or disease.
If starting seed outdoors:
1. Till the area where you intend to plant the seed until all soil is loose and fine 12 inches in depth to allow for proper root growth.
2. Add organic medium to any clay soil to help loosen the soil.
3. Test the soil for proper nutrients and amend as needed.
4. Follow planting depth instructions, plant spacing and planting times on the back of the packet of seed for best results.
5. Make sure the soil is well drained.
6. Keep the moisture level in the soil as level as possible.
